IEEE Miami Section Report to Region 3 And the Florida Council October 15-17, 2004 Atlanta, GA Accomplishments and Activities 1. The section cosponsored a very successful conference on Nanoscale devices and System Integration with more than 110 presenters from around the world and 150 attending. There were 19 sessions and several exhibitors. The section is also sponsoring several future conferences 2. The section also continued its sponsorship and participation in running the Florida regional competition of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition. This year we had 45 schools from around the state participating. The regional competition was held January 17th, 2004 with more than 400 students, teachers, engineers, volunteers and parents participating in a very nice atmosphere. The regional winner was "Westminster Academy" who represented the State in Washington, DC in the National Finals. 3. The section will again conduct the 2005 Future City Competition, we have received a number of school registrations already and we expect 40 or more schools from all over Florida will participate in the competition. The 2005 Competition is scheduled for January 15, 2005. The FIU student branch is working on the Southeastcon 95 in Fort Lauderdale. They will have at least three teams with three different hardware entries having internal competition in February and the winning team will go to the conference to participate in the hardware competition. They will also participate in the paper and software competitions. 4. The section is in the process of creating a chapter of the Neural Network Society 5. The section submitted all its annual reports (meetings, officer and financial) before the deadline. All society Chapters are active and continue to report on activates. The section has conducted many activities this year. The following is a status of the society chapters in our section - EMBS will organize two technical events in next three month - PES conducted several activities and will have a distinguished lecture in October - IAS Chapter has organized two events and has two more planned in the next three month - COM/VT chapter is planning two significant events in the next two month - Computer Society is also planning two events by the end of this year - The section has done several significant activities and is planning few more in the next three months - The Student branches are also active and report several activities The section will continue to be very active status and will participate in many activities that benefit the members and enhance our interaction with the community. We will also continue to seek organizing conferences that will benefit our members and our profession.
