IEEE Mississippi Section Report - October 2004 The Mississippi had a good and active year so far for 2004. The section had six very successful multi-part section meetings to date for the year including the best E-Week luncheon the section ever sponsor, five plant tours, four section dinner meetings and three Section Executive Committee meetings. No meetings were or will be held during the months of June, July, August, and December according to the Mississippi Section?s bylaws. The January 29th meeting was dinner and a plant tour of Parker Hannifin Corp - Fluid Control Division in Madison Mississippi. A Section Executive Committee meeting followed the plant tour. The E-Week luncheon held on February 29th in Vicksburg, Mississippi had an attendance of over 200 people, with five corporate sponsors. William W. Parsons, the NASA Space Shuttle Program Manager, was the main guest speaker. The E-Week luncheon was held at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation Auditorium, one of the few surviving large pre civil war buildings in Vicksburg. Other E-Week activities included IEEE members visiting local junior high and high schools in both Vicksburg and the greater Jackson Mississippi area promoting engineering as a career path. The March 18th meeting was dinner section meeting and a plant tour of Tower Automotive, an automated truck and SUV frame plant in Madison Mississippi. A Section Executive Committee meeting followed the plant tour. The April 22nd meeting was also dinner section meeting and a plant tour of Craft-Co,Enterprises, an electrical component for the automotive industry in Morton Mississippi. The May 20th meeting was a plant tour of Yorozu Automotive, an automotive suspension manufacturer outside of Vicksburg Mississippi. A light meal was served to the members at the plant. The September 30th meeting was a dinner section meeting and a plant tour of Howard Computers, a PC manufacturer in Laurel Mississippi with an attendance of 31 members and guests. A Section Executive Committee meeting followed the plant tour at the plant. Two more section meetings are scheduled this year. The next scheduled meeting, scheduled for October 21st, is a dinner section meeting with a plant tour of Diversified Technology, an industrial computer manufacturer in Ridgeland Mississippi. At the October section meeting, initial nominations will be received for the election of the section?s 2005 officers. November?s meeting is the Section Annual Meeting, date and place are still to be determined, but elections for 2005 section officers are scheduled for this meeting. Joe Turner, the 2004 elected Section Secretary, resigned this month for heath reasons.
