From: Bob Duggan, Flat World Initiative To: R3 ExCom, R3 Section Chairs CC: Bill Ratcliff, R3 Director-Elect, Dave Green, R3 Secretary Subj: Flat World Initiative Report to 3/12 R3 ExCom Meeting Here's my Initiative Report to the 12 Mar 2007 Reg 3 ExCom: ====================================================================== 1. The latest update of the Flat World initiative webpage is at http://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/spc/flatworld.htm 2. The 2006 year-end report summarizing initiative results and recommendations was submitted. 3. The IEEE International Microwave Symposium will be held in Atlanta in 2008. We are discussing with MTT-S how the Flat World Initiative may be included in the symposium planning. 4. References to pertinent articles in the press are still being added to the Flat World webpage. In fact Tom Friedman's landmark book has been updated to include much favorable comment about the work Georgia Tech is doing to reckon with the Flat World reality. (See item 1.) 5. We are in touch with the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce here in Atlanta. The daily Delta flights from Atlanta to Moscow are full. A second daily flight is likely. Delta also plans flights to Dubai and Lagos later this year. They already fly to Dakar and Johannesburg from Atlanta. Delta is now vying for nonstops to China from Atlanta. 6. An outline for Initiative discussions at SECON 2007 has been prepared. 7. Our world is steadily flattening. 8. Feedback and suggestions are solicited and always appreciated.
