                  Strategic Planning Committee (SPC)
                              Minutes
                          17 January 1998


Attendees:  J. Beall, D. Conner, R. Duggan (Chair), R. Harris, D. Jackson, D. McLaren, D. Powers, V. Powers, R. Thompson, W. Ratcliff (Corresponding), D. Caston (Ex-Officio), and R. Riddle (Ex-Officio).

1. Minutes of 15 Nov 1997 SPC Meeting were approved.

2. Director Dale Caston discussed his principal emphases for 1998-9:

  Sections, Student Members, GOLD, and Member retention

3. Roy Harris reviewed the Region 3 1998 Goals & Objectives prepared in   1997 by SPC.  The G&Os were to be presented subsequently for ExCom   approval on 1/18.

4. Support for the National Scout Jamboree was discussed.  Though Reg. 3  has been the prime supporter in the past, future support should appropriately come from RAB, EAB, and USA.  This subject will be addressed further at the April SPC. meeting.

5. Mentor assignments for 1998 were discussed, and the following were approved:

6. The updating of the Region 3 Strategic Plan was discussed.  RAB will meet in February to discuss the Institute’s Strategies for the Future, which in turn will determine where Region 3’s focus may lie.  The Reg 3 Plan will thus be further discussed at the April meeting.

7. Vernon Powers discussed his very detailed updating of the Reg 3 Operations Manual, copies of which were distributed.  Any further corrections/additions should be forwarded as soon as possible to Vernon.  The SPC expressed appreciation to Vernon for this major contribution.

8. Dan Jackson discussed the funding of Reg 3 participation in the Sections Congress ‘99 in Minneapolis.  The current approach is to encourage the Sections to annually set aside funds (as does Reg 3) for the meeting.  Motivating the Sections to do this is a continuing challenge.   

9.  Bob Duggan announced the next SPC meeting will be after dinner on 24 April (Friday) at the Hyatt Airport Hotel in Orlando.
