[Rev. 4-10-00] DRAFT Minutes Reg. 3 Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) Marriott Airport Hotel, Nashville, TN 7 April 2000 Attendees: R. Duggan (Chair), D. Caston, D. Conner, R. Harris, D. Jackson, D. McLaren, V. Powers, R. Thompson, and W. Ratcliff (Vice Chair, corresponding). Ex-Officio: R. Riddle and J. Howard. Absent: J. Beall, D. Powers, and W. Sullivan. Guests/Visitors: D. Green, C. Hickman, D. Hill. 1. Chair R. Duggan welcomed the attendees, and the agenda was approved. 2. Minutes of 12 Jan ‘00 SPC e-Conference meeting were reviewed and approved. The 1/12 minutes are on the Web at . 3. Bill Ratcliff reported on the activities of the e-Conference Committee and described the development permitting Newsgroup participation behind firewalls using DNEWS software and the UAB server. Bill also outlined a proposal to Region 3 for $2500 for hardware at the UAB which will permit research without relying on the UAB server. 4. Bob Duggan reviewed the SPC goals & objectives as defined in the Region 3 Strategic Plan. The SPC G&Os may be seen on the Web at . 5. Vernon Powers reported on the status of the Region 3 History update. The committee is still awaiting certain inputs from past Region 3 directors. Vernon Powers also reported that the updating of the Region 3 Operations Manual may entail a few ByLaw changes later in CY 2000. 6. Bob Duggan reviewed the various mentor assignments. Mentors were reminded that their function, while advisory, includes encouraging the preparation of their cognizant committee goals and objectives -- and the subsequent reporting of progress there on. Director Dick Riddle announced the Fall Reg. 3 ExCom meeting will be 20-22 October in Myrtle Beach. Duggan stated SPC will meet as usual on Friday 10/20. 9.
