Bob Duggan pointed out that the 2004+ Strategic Plan brochure will be updated during 2004, but the brochure format of 2003 will be retained. 4. Dick Riddle, LDO project director, reviewed the LDO briefings given at Greensboro and the plans for 2004. 5. Duggan reviewed the 2004 SPC Goals and Objectives. Challenges faced in the History compilation were discussed. Update of the ByLaws and Operations Manual to better define the role of Ad Hoc committees is still under consideration. Roy Harris agreed to consult with Vernon Powers on this. 6. SPC mentor assignments were discussed. Following the LDO project meeting, Dick Riddle will be mentor to the GOLD committee; Bob Duggan will serve as mentor to the Region Director. 7. Identification of suitable candidates for Region and Institute awards is a continuing challenge for the Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC). The SPC was requested to make suggestions for facilitating the process, particularly for the Dan Jackson Award and selection of Fellows. Following discussion, it was decided to form a Fellow Search Committee composed of Fellows in SPC, including Jim Beall as chair, Dave Conner, and Roy Harris. This committee will seek to identify potential candidates for the Dan Jackson Award and for Fellow grade and will provide advice to nominators. Though they will not do the requisite paperwork, they will critique the nomination forms and give advice in preparing successful nominations. 8. Bill Ratcliff was invited to share some of his thinking about improving the strategic planning process in Region 3, and with a PowerPoint presentation gave food for thought. As an SPC goal was to plan for an SPC retreat, this was discussed with an eye to the tight budget. It was thus decided to aim for meeting on 14 October (before the 15-17 October Reg 3 meetings) in Atlanta. Details remain to be worked out during the coming months. 9. Duggan scheduled the next SPC meeting for 15 October in Atlanta. 10.The meeting was adjourned at 10:10pm
