Abstract:
In a WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) network it is difficult guarantee QoS (Quality of Service) for multimedia applications due to the radio channel characteristics such as intermittent disconnections and interferences. That is the reason why it is necessary a software that the one presented in this paper that estimates if the environment (the radio channel) is favorable to receive streams with good quality. To get real value of this, an estimation of several parameters such as the network congestion, coverage, throughput, received and lost data packets, and so on is taking into account. The software we describe in this paper makes a proactive estimation using a Cross-Layer technique (bottom-up design) evaluating physical level parameters, RTT (Round Trip Time) and statistics about the overall traffic and per stream traffic of each Real Time Streaming Protocol/Real Time Protocol (RTSP/RTP) streaming session. Experimental results show a high percentage of right estimations to detect the channel degradation and the detection of its recuperation.
