Abstract:
The urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along with growing energy security concerns has driven the search for alternatives to the internal combustion engine vehicle. One of the most promising solutions being considered is the electric vehicle. The commercialisation of electric vehicles is expected to instigate an array of new business opportunities for electrical utilities, particularly with the advent of the smart grid. This article presents the findings from a study on the potential for electric vehicle deployment into a commercial fleet; focusing particularly on fleet range requirements, economic feasibility and environmental impacts.
