Abstract:
This paper describes a pilot project for a GPON network in Brazil, and discusses several performance metrics, such as throughput, latency, and frame loss. The GPON technology CAPEX and OPEX are compared to those of alternative solutions for the access network. The results show that, considering the residential and SOHO markets, the GPON solution is viable from both the economic and technical points of view.
