Abstract:
This paper presents an analysis of passive filters applied to a small wind turbine based system. The influence of harmonic distortion inserted by the six pulse rectifiers upon electrical generators is detailed. Thereafter, many topologies of passive filters were investigated in order to mitigate harmonics at the synchronous generator. Three multi-section passive filters performed better and they are compared in the paper. At last, one multi-section filter is chosen and a methodology to project passive filters to a variable speed grid connected small wind turbine is proposed. As result, it´s shown the proposed filter acted properly in a PSIM based simulation of a turbulent wind test, validating the methodology adopted.
