Abstract:
From the perspective of the state-of-the-art related to the best industry practices, requirements engineering is a relatively mature discipline with many well-known methods and techniques for identifying, analyzing, specifying, managing, verifying, and validating the software requirements. But, if that is so, why are there still so many misunderstandings in the requirements specification? A widely explored alternative to obtain the requirements specification is to reuse the requirements from other projects or domain analysis; however this effort mostly has been focused on Software Product Lines approach (specific for large-sized software enterprises), in detriment of an approach based on a Requirements Catalog (more adequate for small-sized software enterprises). Thus, in this paper we propose a functional extension (called RRXRC: Requirements Reuse eXtension based on Requirements Catalog) to incorporate the requirements reuse process into the Rational RequisitePro®, improving in this way the requirements specification through the management of a requirements catalog. Additionally, experimental results are summarized to determine the feasibility of our proposal.
