Abstract:
This work presents a procedure for the calculation of lightning flashover rates of transmission lines based on Monte Carlo method. The procedure has been implemented in Delphi and linked in the Alternative Transients Program ‑ ATP, version of the Electromagnetic Transients Program. Although simple engineering model is used for each component, the overall modelling led to reliable results. The aim of this paper is to present a comparative study of lightning performance of a transmission line in Tennessee using both IEEE FLASH and the proposed procedure.
