This paper presents the mathematical model of a five phase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (5IPMSM) with sinusoidal back electromotive force in abcde frame. The 5 phase reference frame is transformed into two fictitious orthogonal sets termed as dq and x1y10 reference frame. Also, the develop torque is obtained in dq reference frame. The design and assemblage of the winding of a 5IPMSM prototype is presented in detail. The 5IPMSM prototype model parameters are obtained by analytical calculation and standstill tests, with locked rotor.
