Singapore Chapter

2001 Chapter of the Year
(Excerpt from Winning Nomination)

The past four years, from 1997 to 2000 have been busy years for the Chapter. We organized four international conferences, a number of technical talks, and conducted a total of three series of short courses during the period.

The international conferences were in the field of device packaging (three) – EPTC-1 in 1997 December, EPTC-2 in 1998 December and EPTC-3 in December 2000. In the area of IC Failure Analysis and Reliability, the chapter is organising IPFA as a biannual event, which was started in 1987, and currently is one of the leading technical conferences in the field. We had 6th IPFA in July 1997 and 7th IPFA in July 1999. When chapter started EPTC, we planned EPTC to be in odd years while IPFA is in even years. However, due to the overwhelming response from participants as well as due to the encouragement from similar conferences elsewhere, we have now installed succession plans to hold these international conferences on yearly basis.

We see very strong recruitment for the CPMT Chapter over the years and we strike to continue encourage member participation. For the technical talks, we are constantly looking for interesting and up-to-date technical topics to stimulate the member participation. We network with overseas experts and take the opportunity to have them present technical talk when they are in Singapore.

The short courses we organized were intended for engineers in the industry to enhance their technical knowledge and skills and to convey the latest in technology. Apart from the local instructors, we also invited renowned experts to conduct these courses, at times.

We expect strong response and support for the events and activities that are being organized this year, 2001.
