The criteria for selecting the chapter best qualified to receive the Chapter of the Year Award will be based on the following requirements:

1 Technical
Provide service to its members in the technical area. This service will be measured by activities in the following areas:

  • a A technical program offering at least four meetings with technical subjects of interest to its members. The meetings must be advertised and open to members.

2 Educational
Provide service to its members in the educational area. This service will be measured by activities in the following areas:

  • a An educational program offering at least one tutorial, short course, lecture series, or other activity directly related to the tutorial education of its members.

3 Membership Advancement
Promote membership advancement, Senior Member nominations and Fellow nominations. This will be measured by evidence that the chapter has promoted recognition of local members the following:

  • a Advancement in IEEE grade to Senior Member
  • b Fellow grade nomination

4 Membership Recruitment
Increase of members in the chapter through the following activities:

  • Recruitment
  • Retention
  • Recovery
  • Recognition

5 Nomination Submittal
The chapter shall not have won the Chapter of The Year Award for the immediate three preceding years. The nominations report should include:

  • a Well-organized nomination report, which clearly delineates the chapter accomplishments in each of the required areas of activity, prior to the 1 March deadline.
  • b The required meeting report forms to be submitted to IEEE Headquarters.

Note
The selection criteria have been designed with the intent to allow all chapters regardless of size to compete on an equal basis. This intent is reflected in the overall design of the criteria, including specific adjustment of scores based upon chapter size for certain criteria items.

Nominating Criteria
The criteria to be used by the Chapter Representative for nominating a chapter for the Outstanding Chapter Award shall be based upon the following. The chapter must:

  • Have demonstrated a high level of performance in previous years, in each of the areas covered by the criteria for selection, which demonstrates a potential for achieving the Chapter of The Year Award.
  • Have initiated a plan for the current year, which establishes goals and objectives in each area of the selection criteria toward achieving the award. These goals and objectives should subsequently be documented in the nomination proposal.
  • Assign a staff with the responsibility to implement these plans and achieve results.
