Meeting Minutes
Tuesday September 11, 2001
4:45 PM
Hotel Wyndham Montreal, Montreal (Quebec) CANADA
Chair: G. Witter
Vice-Chair:
Secretary: C. Leung
Attendees:
Holm Conference Attendees
Opening: G. Witter
TC-1 of IEEE-CPMT meeting was called to
order by Chairman G. Witter. This was a remarkable day in
world history with the tragedy at the World Trade Center.
The emotions and concerns of everyone made this an
unusual TC-1 meeting with an abbreviated agenda. The
minutes are recorded as follows.
1. Approval of minutes of previous meeting -
G. Witter
2000 meeting minute has been posted at www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/cpmt/org web page. It was approved. Attendance list was
circulated to capture new members.
2. Preliminary Report on IEEE-Holm
Conference - Chi Leung
Total registration to date is 91, which is
at about 75% of past years. There were 47 from USA, 27
from Europe, 6 from Canada, 10 from Asia and 1 from
Africa. Considering the poor US economy, this is a
relatively good turn out. We have 42 technical papers in
10 sessions. The presentations were excellent. The
migration to using LCD and overhead transparency has
improved the visual quality. We even have some high
quality multimedia presentations to explain difficult
subjects.
We encourage nominations for the Ragnar
Holm Scientific Achievement Award and the Ralph Armington
Award, as well as suggestions for the newly formed Morton
Antler Invited Lecturer.
3. Report on 2001 Intensive Course on
Electrical Contact - Paul Slade
The 2001 course was held in Pittsburgh on
June 10-13. 24 students attended. This lower than usual
attendance is obviously impacted by the slow US economy.
However, the feedbacks from the students were all
positive and it still seems like a good activity for IEEE
to maintain.
4. Report on CPMT Transaction J.
McBride (Associate Editor)
The review of 2000 is complete and 25% of
the Holm papers will be published in the CPMT
transactions in Sept 2001. Reviews still need to be more
on time for the 2001 papers. Paper qualilties are good
and better electronic tracking systems of the review
status should be explored.
5. World Calendar
TC-1 Web page used to cross-link with
other conferences. Please send information of related
conferences to Chi Leung. It was also
suggested that any web page updates be informed to TC-1
members with e-mail notice.
5. Defining TC1 and Holm Conference
Technology Scope
Task Group 11 (Roland Timsit, Bob Malucci,
Phil Wingert (Chair), Thomas Schoeph) has submitted the
recommendations to TC-1 chair and further submitted to
CPMT in a 2 page summary.
7. TG3 - establish links on web page with
NARM, IICIT and ICEC. - complete
8. New Business
TC-1 would like to have names of
volunteers willing to make presentations to IEEE local
chapter meetings. The idea is to have minimum travelling
and still have a quality chapter meeting. Please submit
name to Gerry Witter.
Respectfully submitted, Chi Leung, 1/28/2002
