Instructions for Manuscript Central Sites (for Authors)

Step 1: Log In

Note: Before you begin, you should be sure you are using version 4.0 or higher of Netscape or Internet Explorer. If you have an earlier version, you can download a free upgrade using the icons found at the bottom of our login screen.

The login page gives you five options:

    1. Log in with your known User ID and Password 2. Check to see if you have an existing account 3. Create a new account 4. View instructions for new users 5. Download the latest versions of Netscape, Internet Explorer, or Adobe Acrobat Reader

How to Get Help

All pages have a “? Get Help Now” button in the upper right corner. This link brings up a new window that has instructions, answers to Frequently Asked Questions, and a method to log a case with the support team.

What is the difference between “Author Help” and “? Get Help Now”?

"Author Help" takes you to specific submission instructions. These are the same instructions found on the link from the login page. "Get Help Now" takes you to the Frequently Answered Question pages and to the Support Team.

Step 2: Enter your Author Center
To begin a new submission, check a previous submission, continue a submission begun earlier, or submit a revised manuscript, choose Author Center.

Step 3: Inside Your Author Center

Existing manuscripts are found in one of three areas:

  • Manuscripts to be Revised
  • Partially Submitted Manuscripts
  • Submitted Manuscripts

To start a NEW manuscript submission, choose “Submit First Draft of New Manuscript” link.

Step 4: Entering Data
The following screens ask you to enter each piece of data associated with your manuscript. Most of this data will also be included in the text of your manuscript, but needs to be entered in a particular format in order to make the system searchable by these fields. The information you enter will be used for screen display and e-mail notifications only. See the Powerpoint presentations for further instructions and screen shots.

Press “Save and Continue” at the bottom of each screen in order to save all of your work. If you press the "Back" or "Forward" button on your browser your work will not be saved.

Step 5: Upload Your Manuscript
The Draft Center is the area where you upload your draft(s) and choose the version you would like to submit.

Choose “Create a New Draft” to start submission.

Browse to find your file on your computer, and then choose "Upload File".

This IEEE journal prefers that your draft be a PDF file. You may use our free on-line PDF distiller to convert most Word Processor files to PDF, for this purpose. Here is a summary of the instructions:

  • Select “Create PDF of your Manuscript” icon
  • Read and follow instructions on this FAQ page
  • Log-on ID: ScholarOne; Password: Central (case-sensitive)
  • Click “Create PDF Online” icon; select “Convert a File”
  • Use default settings; browse for manuscript’s file; then view results
  • Repeat as needed, to get text and figures right

Always view your proof carefully prior to submitting. You will not be able to change it once it’s submitted.
