Jim McNaul started his career as an officer at the Army Signal
Corps R&D Labs at Ft. Monmouth, NJ in 1956. He was
assigned as Assistant Project Officer to Project MONMOUTH,
a large scale investigation of communication systems in a future
European war, with particular emphasis on new communication
technologies and the radio frequency interference potential
resulting from their introduction into the Army structure. After
this, his interest shifted to low-noise devices being planned
for communication satellite systems and their effects on system
performance.
In 1961, he joined the Army Satellite Communications Agency,
becoming Assistant Technical Director. He was very active
in NATO discussions leading up to the CCIR 1963 Plenary meeting
which for the first time assigned frequencies for communication
satellites. He was a member of the US delegation to the
CCIR meeting.
In 1964, Jim returned to school at Stanford University, where
he earned his Ph.D. in business as an Alfred P. Sloan fellow. He
then pursued a career in academia and business, with such organizations
as Ohio State University, Ford Aerospace, Harris Corp. and
Xerox as well as several start-up companies. His emphasis
was on digital imaging and communications. He held various
positions managing technology and marketing as well as general
management. He was a member of the Board of Directors
of two public companies, Sigma Designs, Inc. and Terminal Data
Corp. He was also on the boards of several private companies;
Avalanche Development Corp., Docupoint Inc. and FastLan Solutions,
Inc., of which he president and founder. He retired
in 1999. |
