2004 University Grant Program

Financial Assistance ($10,000 USD)

For ECE Curriculum Development

The IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society is requesting proposals for a $10,000 grant to aid in establishing a course in the ECE curriculum that addresses principles of and design practices for EMC.

Because of the current and future dramatic increase in high-speed digital and high-frequency wireless products, interference in and between those systems is a rapidly growing concern in industry. Future ECE graduates are increasingly required to be knowledgeable of EMC issues and design methodologies in the workplace. It is estimated that over 40 ECE curricula in universities throughout the world have already instituted a EMC course.

The IEEE EMC Society is providing a $10,000 grant to assist schools in the development of a EMC course. Only a simple proposal is required. The proposal should address, as a minimum, the following:

The course should be implemented (offered and taught) within one year of the grant award and a final report will be required and submitted to the EMC Society within one year after implementation of the course.

Proposals will be accepted until April 30, 2004, and the successful proposal will be selected by June 15, 2004. The name of the 2004 grant winner will be posted on the EMCS web site at http://www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/emcs. Check presentation will take place at the IEEE EMC Society Symposium in Santa Clara, California, USA on August 12, 2004 at the annual awards luncheon. Submit your proposal to the committee chairman:
