IEEE Engineering Management Society is one of forty Societies in IEEE. The focus of most IEEE Societies is technical, while Engineering Management covers the management aspects which are so necessary to the success of technical operations. If you are working in management in a technical area, or a company with technical products, you will find useful material from EMS. If you are aspiring to management, you should find many useful tips and directions in EMS publications and conferences. Perhaps you have some useful suggestions to share with others. Why not submit a paper for publication? Or give a talk at a local meeting, to bring benefit to local members. The Engineering Management Society is very interested in providing services and support that will enhance the membership experience for our members. We have over 60 local chapters around the world, and an active, vibrant Board of Governors. The benefits of EMS membership are many. In addition to the tangible benefits such as publications, conferences and local meetings, membership brings the opportunity to contact, work with, communicate with or just read information from others in your field. Our authors and committee members include the world leaders in engineering management. For our volunteers, we provide training. In 2005, we trained some of our local Chapter leaders at the EMS Chapter Chair Workshop. The meeting was held in conjunction with the EMS Board meeting to allow Chapter Chairs and Board members to discuss programs with each other. Unfortunately we cannot afford to hold such a workshop in 2006, but there is excellent communication already underway with the Chapter Chairs, and we hope to build a strong team of local leaders. A full membership team is active looking at service to EMS members and Chapters. The names and responsibilities of the team members are shown on this site. If you are not yet a Chapter volunteer leader, your contact with EMS is most likely through your local Chapter's activities or through the benefits EMS members get automatically - their subscription to the Transactions, The Review, and the Newsletter, and invitations to participate with your peers at our world-wide conferences, refreshing yourself with up to date information on issues facing engineers and engineering and technology managers. You may have been among the hundreds that participated in our recent efforts in providing Distinguished Lecturers on the Web or in last year's Web Conference. The list of Distinguished Lecturers is also available on the site, for Chapters who wish to contact a lecturer who might be in the Chapter vicinity. |
