About the Newsletter

The IEEE EMS Newsletter (NL) provides its members with general information about the society through commentaries from its President and other members of the Board of Governors (BoG).

The EMS NL also includes Commentaries, Recognition of Senior members and IEEE Fellows, news of Society Awards such as the EMS Engineering Manager of the Year Award, best Transactions Paper Award, Chapter activities, Conference announcements, ABET updates, and information of general interest.

The EMS NL also focuses on developing a philosophical base of engineering and technology management through its Engineering Manager's Notebook - short articles on a specific topic.

Some examples: Overworked-No time to think, Back to Basics, The "Art" of Engineering Management, Internet Grant and Funding Programs, Engineering and Management-What's the Difference, Librarians Add Value to Knowledge Management Teams, Hawthorne Revisited, Engineering Accreditation, Coach as Servant, Project management-a strategic approach, and other relevant topics for the practicing manager.

The EMS Newsletter has promoted the philosophy that all engineers, regardless of level, perform some management function. The approach has been to convince engineering managers and engineers to strive for excellence - to take the initiative and go beyond the job description - to take a proactive stance.

Newsletter Policy
The purpose of the EMS Newsletter is to inform the Society's membership about issues faced by engineering and technology managers and engineers. The content will reflect a balance on all issues and will be apolitical. Controversial issues will be explored in an objective manner from alternate perspectives. Criticism of individuals or organizations (academia, government, industry, professional societies and their entities, and so on) goes beyond the bounds of professional editorial conduct and will not be presented. Authors take responsibility for their content and publication of opinion pieces does not indicate approval or sanctioning by EMS.
