Best Manufacturing Practices (BMP)

This site is funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Its goal is to promote sharing of relevant information and lessons learned among industry, government, and academia. Added-value site features include an electronic library of engineering guidelines and digital-streaming videos that help explain the BMP Center of Excellence and how industry participants benefit by it. Actual BMP survey reports are indexed and can be readily obtainedin PDF or HTML formats. Three software applications can be downloaded or run online from the Program Manager's Workstation page. These include the BMP Database, a risk management assessment tool, and a publications-focused tool. There are over 100 links for direct connections to other relevant web sites such as the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Strategic Industries and Economic Security, U.S. Office of Naval Research Industrial Department, Center of Excellence for Composites Manufacturing Technology, National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and U.K. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Drilling down through each option can lead to other useful resources and additional links. U.S. and Canadian organizations can become fully BMP compliant and take advantage of the opportunity to host a voluntary survey process that can showcase their best practices in six functional areas: design, test, production, facilities, logistics, and, management.
