Santa Clara Valley Chapter Active in Several Areas
Under the leadership of San Jose State University Professor Lili He the Santa Clara Valley Chapter (California USA) is making great strides toward fulfilling the mission of an Education Society Chapter. Less than 2-years old, the chapter offers a full slate of professional activities and community events. The chapter's Executive Committee (photo at right) is one of the most outstanding groups of Education Society leaders we have.

The chapter's Web page is located at: www.ewh.ieee.org/r6/scv/es/

Hagler and Oakley Receive Distinguished Member Designation
Marion Hagler (left), from the Mississippi State University USA, and Burks Oakley (right), from the University of Illinois USA, have received the IEEE Education Society’s Distinguished Member Award. This award, presented the first time this year, recognizes outstanding long-term service to the IEEE Education Society and significant contributions in the fields of interest to the IEEE. Both Oakley's and Hagler's service to the Society has been exemplary. Both have served as AdCom members and have been the chair of various EdSoc committees. The presentation of the awards was made at the October2005 Frontiers in Education Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Congratulations to Marion and Burks!

COPEC Sponsors WCCECTE 2006 Conference in Brazil
Prof. Dr. Claudio Da Rocha Brito (right), the General Chair for the World Congress on Computer Science, Engineering and Technology Education (WCETCE 2006), and Melany Ciampi (left), the Conference Program Chair, have announced the this conference will be held in Itanhaém / Santos, Brazil from March 19 to March 22, 2006. The Theme of the Congress is: "New Engineering to a New World".

The emerging global economy has brought deep transformation in all the areas of human life. This was possible thanks to the development of the Science and Technology that promoted the communications as well as the increase of the capacity of information storage that facilitated the knowledge acquisition in all the areas, in a such way as never before in humanity's history.

The WCCSETE – World Congress on Computer Science, Engineering and Technology Education has as its first goal to promote and discuss the latest innovations in these fields. It is a great opportunity for all the professionals and researchers of these areas to share ideas and to learn more about the newest developments and researches.

Universities, researchers and institutes of researches, world specialists of the areas, politicians engaged with the scientific and technological development of the countries, they are all gathered in this event. Besides its social and cultural program, it offers workshops, interactive special sessions and plenary sessions with speakers from several countries when the participants can have a vision of the kaleidoscope that such current and interesting theme provides. All papers are peer-reviewed for an international review board and the official languages are English, Spanish and Portuguese.

This event is sponsored by the Council of Researchers in Education and Sciences (COPEC) and is hosted by the Catholic University of Santos (Brazil).

EdSoc Student Activity Committee Chair Hosted in Slovenia Chapter
Just last month the Chair of the Education Society's Student Activity Committee, Marcelo de Castro (left) of Brazil, made a presentation at the University of Maribor (Slovenia). This event was hosted by the Chair of the IEEE-Slovenia's Education Society Chapter, Professor Matjac Debev. Castro spoke to a large audience about a number of IEEE-related subjects. This is an excellent example of how chapters can utilize the services provided by the Society.

The PowerPoint presentation from this seminar is available at: www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/es/bulletins/Marcelo-Slovenia.ppt
