Technical Symposia 2004 Grant Program Guidelines

The purpose of the program is to encourage IEEE geographic units to provide an opportunity for members to participate in more intensive technical presentations than is possible in a typical meeting, but short of a full-scale conference.  Grants of $500 are available for qualifying proposals.  Please forward completed form (attached) to symposia-grants@ieee.org.

Guidelines are as follows:

1.      The Symposium is expected to include at least 5 hours (300 minutes) of technical presentation.

2.      The Symposium should be planned or supported by at least one IEEE Technical Society, Chapter, or Section.

3.      The proposal should include sufficient information about technical content, possible speakers, and probable attendees to permit evaluation of the proposal

4.      The proposal must include a budget for the Symposium.

5.      Additional consideration will be given to those geographic units which have not received a symposia grant in the past.

6.      Geographic units may not receive the grant over a period of two consecutive years.  Geographic units will be eligible for consideration after one year of not receiving a grant.

7.      The grant will be provided after the IEEE RAB/TAB Section/ Chapter Support Committee or a representative thereof approves a proposal, considering the total budget of this program.

8.      A report must be provided within one month after the Symposium occurs. The report may be brief, but should include specific information about the program and a financial summary.

9.      If sufficient funds remain in the budget by the middle of the year, the RAB/TAB Section/Chapter Support Committee may elect to award grants to proposals denied for administrative reasons earlier in the year.

To apply, Sections and Chapters submitting proposals must be active and in good standing (all required reports current).  The attached questionnaire must be completed.
