Dr. Bennett is an active researcher in the Mathematical Programming, Operations Research, Machine Learning, and Data Mining communities. She has been working in support vector machines and closely-related mathematical-programming approaches to learning since 1989, publishing over 50 papers on related topics.  She has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Sciences from University of Wisconsin-Madison.   She is currently an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer with additional appointments in Information Technology and the Department of Decision and Engineering Sciences.  She is Program Co-chair of the 2005 SIGKDD Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Conference.  She has served as a program committee member of the SIGKDD Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Conference, AAAI Conference, International Conference on Machine Learning, Neural Information Processing Systems, Conference on Learning Theory, IEEE Conference on Data Mining, and SIAM International Conference on Data Mining. She has organized multiple data mining and machine learning clusters at INFORMS meetings.  She is a former associate editor of Naval Research Logistics, Machine Learning Journal, and SIAM Journal of Optimization.  She is currently an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks.  She serves on the advisory boards of the Journal of Machine Learning Research and Equibits, a company providing of ADME/Tox and HTS SVM-based predictive modeling solutions.  Her tutorials on support vector machines have proven very popular with industry, conferences, graduate schools and undergraduate institutions. She has experience developing data mining approaches for chemistry and biology related applications with several major funded projects in these areas. She has an active consulting practice in data mining for molecular properties.
