IEEE-PES 2005 Region 10 Chapters' Meet

        The second IEEE-PES Region 10 Chapters' Meet, the first of its kind was held in 2002, was started on 18th December 2005 at the Pathumwan Princessn Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, with the welcome drinks. The Chair of IEEE PES Thailand Chapter welcomed all the participants and introduced the IEEE PES volunteers from Thailand who had worked tirelessly to make this program successful.

        On 19th December 2005 in the pre lunch session, Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, IEEE PES R10 Representative, discussed the Resources Available to Chapters. Dr. Lalit Goel, IEEE PES R10 South Chapters Representative, made presentations on the following: How to Motivate PES Chapters, Membership Recruitment & Retention, Distinguished Lecturer Program and High Performing Chapter Program. In the post lunch session, at first Dr. Lalit Goel discussed Outstanding Chapter Award & Outstanding Chapter Engineer Award, which was followed by the discussions on SAMIEEE, PES Web Pages & Communications by Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay. Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay also highlighted What’s new at PES & Reports.

        On 20th December 2005, Dr. Norman Mariun, IEEE PES R10 East Chapters Representative made presentations on IEEE / PES GOLD Program. It was followed by a detailed discussion on – How to Improve PES Services to Chapters. Finally goals were set for PES Chapters of Region 10 for 2006-2007.

        Altogether 19 participants took part in this meeting out of which 7 were from India.

Report on

IEEE-PES 2000 Chapters Congress

         The second IEEE-PES Chapters Congress, the first of its kind was held in 1996, was inaugurated on 20th July 2000 at the Renaissance Madison Hotel in Seattle, Washington, USA by Mr. Roger Sullivan, General Chair of the congress.

On 21st July 2000, four tutorials were held on Finance, Membership development, Technical activities and multi-subject. The participants were required to participate in each of these four tutorials, where leading IEEE PES activists explained the details of various IEEE activities. After the tutorials, regional caucuses were held and each of the ten regions was asked to submit one proposal, which will go straight to the executive board for consideration.

 

On 2nd July, two problem-solving sessions were held; where the participants were given problems faced by IEEE PE Chapters and were asked to propose possible remedies. Altogether 20 recommendations were then sent to the final voting session, where the participants voted to chose the top ten recommendations to be considered by the executive board to determine the future courses of action.

There were ten recommendations made by the ten regions as well as the recommendations obtained as the results of voting.

On 22nd July afternoon the concluding session was held, which was chaired by the PES Chair for the year 2000, Mr. Don Volzka.

        Altogether 139 delegates took part in the Chapters Congress 2000 to make it a grand success, out of which 7 were from India.
