The seminar was inaugurated by Sri Rajat K Sen, Director (Systems), DVC, on 19th March at 10:30am. The inaugural session  was chaired by Prof. T.S. Banerjee, Director, Haldia Institute of Technology. Sri R.K.Sen in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of condition monitoring of power equipments vis-à-vis maintenance in the context of achieving improved efficiency as well as better economy for the power utilities. Prof. S. Chakravorti, Organising Chairman and Chairman of IEEE PE Kolkata Chapter in his welcome address explained the backdrop in which this seminar has been organised. He expressed the hope that this seminar will bring forward the modern diagnostic techniques in condition monitoring as well as discuss the challenges that still lie ahead. Prof. S.K.Sanyal, Vice-Chairman, IEEE Calcutta Section in his address elaborated the programs of IEEE Calcutta Section and stressed on the need of more interaction between academia and industry through such programs. Dr. P.Purkait, Convenor, proposed the vote of thanks.

The seminar was divided in four technical sessions. The first session was chaired by Mr. A. Roy Choudhuri, Former Director (Technical), DVC. In this session Prof. N.K. Kishore of IIT-Kharagpur presented his paper on "Conventional Condition Monitoring Techniques". The second paper of the session was presented by Mr. S.K.Chand of PGCIL on "Furan Analysis". The second session was chaired by Dr. S.N.Bhadra, Former Professor of IIT-Kharagpur. In this session there was only one paper on "Difficulties encountered during partial discharge monitoring-Are solutions plausible" by Prof. L.Satish of IISc, Bangalore. The third session was chaired by Dr. P.K.Sen, Former Professor of NIT-Durgapur. In this session two papers were presented. Mr. S.Bhattacharya of CESC Ltd presented his paper on "Condition monitoring of power transformers through DGA" and Mr. T.K.Gangopadhyay of CGCRI, Kolkata, presented his paper on "Electrically isolated vibration measurement system for high voltage applications using fibre-optic sensors". The final session was chaired by Prof. S.Basu, Former Professor of Jadavpur University and Dr. P.Purkait of Haldia Institute of Technology presented his paper on "Dielectric Response measurements for transformer insulation condition monitoring". A proceedings was also published during the seminar that contained all the papers presented in the seminar.

Altogether 104 participants took part in this national seminar representing 12 educational institutes and 13 power industries including power utilities. The seminar was sponsored by several organisations. The Platinum Sponsor was CESC Ltd and the Gold Sponsors were Asansol Engineering College, Damodar Valley Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Jadavpur University.
