The week-long course was designed for the faculty members of engineering teaching and research institutions as well as practicing engineers. The course was conducted in two-parts. Theoretical classes were held in the first half of the day on each of the topics, while the follow up laboratories were held in the second half of the respective days.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. P.K.Chattopadhyay, Head, Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University on Monday, July 3, 2006. On the first day, i.e. July 3, 2006, the lecture on Artificial Neural Networks was delivered by Prof. Sivaji Chakravorti of Jadavpur University. Fuzzy Systems was discussed by Dr. Amitava Chatterjee of JU on July 4, 2006. The topic of Soft Optimization Techniques was taken up by Prof. Swapan K Goswami and Prof. Subrata Paul of JU on July 5, 2006. Prof. Sivaji Chakravorti deliberated on Wavelet Analysis on July 6, 2006. Finite Element Analysis was discussed by Prof. Kesab Bhattacharya and Dr. Suparna Kar Chowdhury of JU on July 7, 2006. On Saturday, July 8, 2006, Electromagnetic Transient Program was outlined by Dr. Prithwiraj Purkait of Haldia Institute of Technology. The laboratory classes were conducted by Mr. Biswajit Bhattacharya and Mr. Debangshu Dey of JU, Dr. Abhijit Lahiri of Calcutta Institute of Engg & Management Kolkata and Mr. Chiranjib Koley of Haldia Institute of Technology.
The valedictory session of the course was chaired by Prof. Shyamal Kanti Sanyal, Vice-Chancellor, Jadavpur University. Prof. S.K.Sanyal in his valedictory address stressed upon the need to organize such courses on a regular basis. Prof. Sanyal also distributed the certificates to the participants.
There were 33 registered participants in this short-term course. Feed back forms were collected from the participants every day. Analysis of feedback showed that the course was greatly appreciated by the participants.
