Educational Activities
A) An educational program was organized by Power Engineering Chapter in collaboration with Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University as detailed below. The program was highly successful as more than 30 participants comprising significant number of students took part in this program.

B) A round table discussion on 'Emerging Trends in Illumination Engineering' was organized jointly by the Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University and the Power Engineering Chapter of IEEE Calcutta Section on 22nd December 2004 in the Photometry Laboratory of EE Dept, JU. This program was organized as a part of the educational activities of the Power Engineering Chapter.
A) The workshop on 'Impact of Electricity Privatization on the Existing Electric Power Systems' was organized jointly by IEEE Calcutta Section and its Power Engineering Chapter on 19th December 2003 in the Seminar Room of Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University, Kolkata. This workshop program was organized under the aegis of IEEE-PES Distinguished Lecturer program and was a part of the educational activities of the Power Engineering Chapter.

Detailed Report on the Workshop
B) A one-day tutorial on 'Wavelet Transform and Fractal Analysis in Pattern Recognition' was organized jointly by IEEE Calcutta Section and its Power Engineering Chapter on 6th November 2003 in the Regency Ballroom of Hyatt Regency, Kolkata. This tutorial program was organized as a part of the Silver Jubilee celebration program of IEEE Calcutta Section and is a part of the educational activities of the Power Engineering Chapter.

Detailed Report on the Tutorial
C) A half-day seminar had been organized by the Power Engineering Chapter of IEEE Calcutta Section in Collaboration with the student Branch of BIT Mesra (DU) as detailed below. This seminar was organized as a part of the educational activities of the chapter.

Topic: Application of Soft-computing Techniques in Power Systems

Time: From 14:00 Hrs to 18:00 Hrs.
Brief Report: At the outset, Dr. K. Bhattacharya, Secretary, PE Kolkata Chapter outlined the objective of the tutorial program and introduced the speakers to the participants. Dr. Purkait spoke on the application of wavelet transform for fault identification in transformers. Mr. Lahiri then discussed in details on the usefulness of genetic algorithm coupled to artificial neural network for optimization of 3D electric field distribution with particular reference to GIS. Altogether there were 27 participants in this tutorial program. Prof. S. Chakravorti, Chair, PE Kolkata Chapter presided over the program.
