The 1999 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA, USA, from April 11 to 16, 1999. This IEEE/PES sponsored event is the largest exhibition of its type in the world. The conference covers a wide range of topics on all aspects of overhead and underground power transmission and distribution.

Abstract: "Why these overhead lines cannot be installed underground?" To answer this question, a variety of technical, environmental, and economic factors have to be considered. This Session will explore the international experience with this issue. Some important technical considerations and cost implications will be presented. This Session indicates the beginning of the continuous liaison between two major technical groups of the IEEE Power Engineering Society dealing with overhead and underground high voltage lines.
