Spring 2005 PES-ICC Meeting

St. Petersburg, FL, April 17 - 20, at the Don CeSar
Hotel
| An Invitation |
Hope you all had a great holiday
season. It's time to start thinking about our spring meeting which will be
at the Don Cesar in St. Petersburg from April 17 - April 20.
Please plan on staying at the Don Cesar or the TradeWinds,
so that we meet our room commitments and don't have to pay a penalty. At
this meeting we have a contract with both the Don Cesar and the TradeWinds
for overflow. At the fall meeting, we met our room commitment to the Don,
but fell way short of meeting the commitment with the TradeWinds.
Due to not meeting our room night commitment at the TradeWinds,
they are trying to force us to pay a large penalty, which we are trying to
negotiate with them to eliminate or minimize. We still need most of our
members staying at the Don, so we don't incur penalties with not meeting our
room nights, but we need at least 50 people to stay at the TradeWinds.
Reservations for the TradeWinds can be made by calling 800-360-4016. The
rate for the TradeWinds is $175 per night. We haven't
been providing transportation between the TradeWinds and the Don because so
few people have been staying at the TradeWinds. If we get enough people to
stay there, so we don't have to pay a penalty, we will set up a shuttle bus
between the two hotels.
Please register early
and save some money and time at the conference.
Make your plans now and let's enjoy the Florida weather
and each other's company as we learn and improve our industry.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in April.
Thanks, Bill Taylor -

| Educational Program |
A Review of Secondary Underground
Cable Basics
The topic of 600 volt underground
secondary cable is seldom discussed at ICC meetings where medium and
high voltage underground cables receive most attention. However,
underground secondary cables form an important part of a utility system
considering larger utilities install more than 1 million ft. of
underground secondary cable per year and spend several million dollars
annually on secondary underground cable repair costs. This Educational
Program will focus on the topic of underground residential and
commercial services and underground streetlight cables. Presentations
from the cable manufacturers will cover the manufacture, design,
materials and industry specifications covering secondary cables. Learn
about the latest secondary cable design technologies and their potential
benefits. Presentations from the utilities will focus on their
experience with underground secondary cables and splices. The
Educational Program will also feature a presentation on the results of a
utility survey on secondary cables conducted specifically for the
benefit of utilities attending this session. Learn more about the
specifics of our program in the coming weeks.
