following 2 seminars:-
Seminar 1
Recurrent Neural Network based
Hybrid model for Price prediction in Deregulated Electricity Market
Date: 11 Nov
2008
Time: 6-6:45 pm
Venue: EA 02-11 in NUS
Presenter: Mr Vishal Sharma, Research Scholar, ECE dept, NUS
Abstract:
The deregulation of electricity market has changed the underlying structure of
the market and heightened the risk associated with electricity transactions
among buyers and sellers.
The competitive bidding-based determination of electricity prices, and their
distinctive features, like non-storability lead to extreme volatility in the
market. Electricity price is dependent on various extrinsic and intrinsic
factors. Extreme variations in time series data representing electricity price
are observed, with intermittent spikes. These factors render
the prediction of price in electricity market an extremely
important and challenging task. With the application of electricity price
prediction in mind, various nonlinear models were experimented for accurate
modeling of price time series in this work. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN)-based
models have shown good results when applied to prediction of dynamic time series
due to their ability to handle dynamic data. However, electricity price time
series exhibits unique characteristics due to its chaotic nature, and it was
observed that many previous approaches were not very successful in accurately
predicting electricity price. In this presentation, we demonstrate the
development of a hybrid model which employs a synergistic combination RNN to
handle the dynamic data, and excitable dynamics of the coupled model to obtain
better and utile results on deregulated markets.
