"NATIONAL JUNIOR SOLAR SPRINT COMPETITION 2008" The Power Chapter is proud to be the co-sponsor for the NATIONAL JUNIOR SOLAR SPRINT COMPETITION 2008 organized by the Singapore Polytechnic of Singapore National Junior Solar Sprint Competition (NJSSC) is a race competition of mini-solar cars which are constructed by secondary school students. It is a fun way to encourage secondary school students to apply their knowledge of physics and mathematics. It also helps to expose students to the green initiative and ways to protect the environment. It is expected that this event will help generate greater awareness for the need to use renewable, environmental-friendly energy sources among the young students. The NJSSC has always been quite popular among secondary schools and media. It has attracted increasing interest over the years from the schools and as expected, this has led to higher standards and an increasing level of competitiveness amongst the participating teams. The participating schools have come up with rather impressive mini solar cars, in terms of performance and design. Much creativity, innovation, originality and quite a fair bit of imagination had been put into the design of those cars. As the competition has limited the participation to only one team from each school, it is only natural that schools would like to have the best and most deserving team to compete against other school teams. A team comprises of three students and a teacher. Every year about 70 secondary schools participate in this competition. In 2005, NJSSC attracted 93 teams from 93 secondary schools, which is the highest number for the competition. Solar cars are judged mainly for two categories, best designed cars and fastest cars. There are 5 prizes for best designed car category and 5 prizes for fastest car category.. In addition, there will be other prizes such as most popular car, most innovative car, etc. Each team member of the winning team receives a prize and all participating team members get a certificate. We will keep you updated for further information as the event draws near!
