IEEE PES Singapore Chapter's
25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Singapore Chapter celebrates 25 Anniversary (1984 to 2009)

Singapore Chapter celebrated 25th Anniversary with a gala dinner for members and guests on 2 December 2009.  The dinner was held at The Jewel Box on Mount Faber, Singapore’s iconic hilltop destination.  The gem of the venue was the magnificent view from the top of a hill with an incidental fireworks display downhill at Sentosa Harbourfront.  The highlights of the evening were the cutting of the anniversary cake and a video-reminiscence of past activities.

The evening started with a video-show and a welcome address by the Chair, Dr Dipti Srinivasan.  She shared with members and guests the Chapter’s new initiatives implemented in recent years, namely Conference Support Grants for members to attend local and regional conferences, Student Workshops which provides an alternative avenue for students to present their projects, Student Support Activities which support student-led activities promoting environmental awareness and clean energy, and Community Service Activities to help the needy and underprivileged.    A jazz band provides musical entertainment in between the ten-course banquet dishes.

Pro-Term Committee Chair, Dr Lock Kai Sang, and the first recipient of the Chapter’s Outstanding Engineer Award, Professor Liew Ah Choy,  brought members into nostalgia by reminiscence of memorable  activities from the founding of the Singapore Chapter to the present.  Mr Tan Teck Lee, an active member in the society and in the power and energy industry, was presented with the Outstanding Engineer Award for his outstanding contributions to the Chapter and Power Engineering Profession.

The evening cumulated with the cutting of the 25th Anniversary Cake on stage.  The celebratory atmosphere was enhanced with three cheers of “Yam Seng”, a traditional cheer for merry-making.  Taking over the helm from Dr Dipti Srinivasan, Mr Tan Teck Lee thanked members and guests for taking time-off their busy schedules to grace the occasion.  He encouraged members to build on the present momentum to strengthen bond, continue to innovate and entrench the culture for excellence in the Singapore Chapter.
