Abstract:
The Electricity Vending System
is a patent-pending infrastructure for competitive retailing of electricity.
Electricity consumption for consumers has typically been determined using meter
that records the consumer’s electricity usage. The meter of the small consumer
is read periodically, typically monthly or bi-monthly and the consumer is
invoiced for their consumption by their electricity retailer. Such processes
require an expensive invoicing system. The system has to set up an account for
each consumer and the consumer may have to pay a deposit to cover the usage for
a billing period. The Electricity Vending System eliminates the above processes.
Anybody can buy any amount of electricity from any retailers at anytime,
anywhere and through any means. The word “any” has to be suitably qualified
wherever necessary. Purchasing electricity supply is just as simple as buying a
can of drink from a roadside vending machine. Consumer just simply buys,
consumes and forgets. There is no monthly electricity utility bill. The
Electricity Vending System also provides consumer with a wireless Consumer
Display Unit that tells the consumers his current usage of electricity.
Awareness of current usage could enable the consumer to take appropriate actions
to reduce electricity wastage and minimize their overall cost of electricity by
managing the time of usage. The EVS has been developed and a pilot project is
being implemented at Marine Parade.
