Abstract:
This seminar will provide an
overview of Singapore's electrical energy system and its market structure.
The various smart grid initiatives taken in Singapore, their rationale, the
design concept and the applications will be presented.
Biography:
Mr Chan Eng Kiat is the Project Director at Energy
Market Authority Singapore.
Mr Chan has more than 35 years of experience in the
utility business. He joined the then Electricity Department of Public
Utilities Board (PUB), Singapore in 1975 and has served in various areas
including Power System Protection, System Commissioning, Distribution
Operation & Maintenance, Technical Support and Supervisory Control and
Communication.
With the privatisation of Electricity Department of
PUB in 1995, he was appointed as the Managing Director of Power Automation
Pte Ltd, a joint-venture company of Singapore Power and Siemens AG which markets and delivers
SCADA/DMS/EMS and Substation Automation solutions and systems in the
Asia-Pacific region.
He returned to SP PowerGrid in 2004 as General
Manager (Regulatory & Network Planning), responsible for regulatory affairs,
transmission and distribution network planning. Mr Chan joined the Energy
Market Authority in 2009 as Specialist and Project Director (Intelligent
Energy System) taking charge of the Smart Grid project in Singapore.
Mr Chan was the Project Manager implementing
the Distribution Automation/Distribution Management System for the entire
22kV distribution network of Singapore and was awarded the Asean Engineering
Award (Singapore) for Excellence in Technology in 1998 for the project he
had done.
