Abstract

The South African Energy utility system is quite different and is still running under huge monopoly. How it is deterrent to the implementation of future energy network for augmenting both network capacity as well as clean and green energy generation will be highlighted. This seminar will cover the concepts and issues of microgrids and smartgrids. The South African Scenario of Microgrids, Smartgrids and its way forward will be presented. Some excerpts of the IET (UK) book “Microgrids and Active Distribution Networks” by Chowdhury, Chowdhury and Crossley would be discussed.
