| Recent news from CIGRE (all Study Committees): A call was received recently from the CIGRÉ Paris office for qualified candidates for seven (7) new CIGRÉ Study Committee working groups, which are expected to start shortly. The seven (7) working groups and their respective sponsoring Study Committees are listed below. The scopes of the seven working groups are attached. 1) WG A1.01 --- Guide on Overfluxing Generators (CIGRÉ SC A1: Rotating Electrical Machines). 2) WG A1.02 --- Generator Stator Winding Stress Grading Coating Problem (CIGRÉ SC A1: Rotating Electrical Machines). 3) WG A1.03 --- Guide on Generator/Power System Interrelationship Issues (CIGRÉ SC A1: Rotating Electrical Machines). 4) WG A1.04 --- Generator Fire Protection Guidelines (CIGRÉ SC A1: Rotating Electrical Machines). 5) WG A1.05 --- Economic Evaluation of Generator Refurbishment/Replacement (CIGRÉ SC A1: Rotating Electrical Machines). 6) WG A3.24 --- Tools for Simulating Internal Arc and Current Withstand Testing (CIGRÉ SC A3: High Voltage Equipment). 7) WG B2.23 --- Geotechnical and Structural Design of the Foundations of HV & UHV Lines, Application to the Updating to the Refurbishment and Upgrading Guide (CIGRÉ SC B2: Overhead Lines). |

He will submit the recommendation to the SC A3 (Switchgear) and US NC for their consideration. |
| Rule for getting involved in all other CIGRE WGs: If you are interested in any of these seven groups, please respond to U.S. National Committee Vice President and Technical Committee Chairman Dr. B. Don Russell (bdrussell@tamu.edu or Phone: 979-845-7912). Dr. Russell will submit the U. S. National Committee’s recommendations to the appropriate CIGRÉ parties for their consideration. (Remember, the CIGRÉ rule is to have one or at most two experts from a country in a working group or task force, depending on the size of the group. In addition, the final choice of the members of a working group or task force is the responsibility of the SC chairman with the working group or task force convener, who can accept or reject a candidate.) In your response, please include your full name, title, company, address, phone, facsimile, and email address, along with the name(s) of the working group(s) in which you are interested, and a brief resume of your experience pertinent to the working group(s) of interest. |
