Low-Voltage Switchgear Devices Subcommittee (LVSD)

Scope:

Treatment of all matters relating to low voltage devices (1000 volts ac, 3200 volts dc and below), such as low voltage power circuit breakers, fusible switching devices, and other low voltage power switching devices, except molded case circuit breakers and network protectors, for use in switchgear assemblies or in individual enclosures for separate mounting.

Current LVSD Subcommittee Activities:

C37.13 working group (Standard for Low-Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers Used in Enclosures)

Standard is in balloting process.  Draft 21 ballot headed to ballot (Fall 2007).  The major issues most recently addressed in the latest draft and ballots include:

·         dual 50/60 Hz ratings and applicable tests requirements

·         coordination with C37.50 – Switchgear Low Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers Used in Enclosures – Tests Procedures

·         coordination with revisions to C37.27 – LV AC Non-integrally Fused Power Circuit Breakers

Spring 2008 meeting should target review of ballot comments.

PC37.13.1 (Standard for Definite Purpose Switching Devices Used in Metal Enclosed Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear)

No current activity.

C37.14 working group (IEEE Standard for Low-Voltage DC Power Circuit Breakers Used in Enclosures)

The WG has joint sponsorship with Vehicular Technology committee.  Initial meetings target discussing the review of transit industry changes in the last 5 years or so and coordination with C37.16, C37.17, C37.20.1 and C37.20.8 (pending standard for DC Switchgear).

C37.16 working group (Preferred Ratings, Related Requirements, and Application Recommendations for Low-Voltage AC (635V and below) and DC (3200V and below) Power Circuit Breakers)

From the fall 2007 Philadelphia, PA meeting, issues with mechanical endurance are being resolved and balloting process is forecast for fall 2007.

The spring 2008 meeting should target review of balloted document.

C37.17 working group (Standard for Direct-Acting Trip Systems for Low-Voltage (up to 635  V) AC and General Purpose Low Voltage (up to 325 V) DC Power Circuit Breakers)

WG is going to revisions for the update the terminology or technology currently in use in the industry. Bringing the standard up-to-date, to reflect current practice as well as to retain important historical information will require general revisions to reflect the capabilities of modern electronic tripping systems. These modern systems may have extended capabilities compared to historic systems. In addition, changes to the requirements must be coordinated with changes to related standards, including C37.13, C37.27, C37.16, and C37.14, which are presently under revision or on which revision efforts may begin shortly.

C37.18 (IEEE Standard Enclosed Field Discharge Circuit Breakers for Rotating Electric Machinery)

No current activity.  Next action is due in 2008.

C37.26 (IEEE Guide for Methods of Power Factor Measurements for Low Voltage Inductive Test Circuits)

No current activity.  Next action is due in 2008.

C37.27 working group (Application Guide for Low-Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers Applied With Separately Mounted Current-Limiting Fuses)

Standard is in balloting process.  Draft 15 ballot headed to ballot (Fall 2007).  The major issues most recently addressed in the latest draft and ballots include:

·         Revisions to the Figure 1 and the coordination with the rated short-circuit current and the peak let-through current of the current-limiting fuses.

Spring 2008 meeting should target review of ballot comments.

C37.29 (Standard for LV AC Power Circuit Protectors Used in Enclosures)

This standard was administratively withdrawn by the Standards Board on December 7, 2005.
