Current Rode Subcommittee Activities:

Controls for Distribution Equipment Task Force

Chairman: Donald M. Parker

There are voids in existing standards regarding special requirements associated with the application of controls on distribution lines (outside the substation).  The purpose of this task force is to identify these special requirements and define the necessary testing.  Some examples of these requirements are: (1) temperature, humidity, frost, (2) mechanical vibration, (3) harmonics, (4) grounding variations, (5) electro-magnetic interference, and (6) lightning and other surges.

New Solid Dielectric Equipment Task Force

Chairman: Chris Ambrose

Solid dielectric equipment is emerging technology and there is a need to analyze this equipment to determine what design tests, routine tests, and construction specifications may be needed/used.  The solid dielectric equipment will affect many standards, including C37.60, C37.63, C37.66, and C37.74.  Due to this equipment affecting many standards, the RODE Subcommittee members at the Fall 2005 meeting agreed that a RODE Subcommittee Task Force needs to be initiated to investigate this type of equipment.

C37.60 – Recloser Working Group

Chairmen: Bob Behl & Dave Stone

This is a possible new working group.  Now in the formation stage. General revisions with possible new requirements for solid dielectric equipment design tests, routine tests, and construction specifications.  The solid dielectric equipment is being analyzed by a separate RODE Subcommittee task force.  The Corrigendum #1 for this standard will be incorporated into the revision.  Other changes to this standard will be solicited.

C37.74 – Underground Switchgear Working Group

Chairman: Steve Meiners

This is a possible new working group.  Now in the formation stage. General revisions with possible new requirements for solid dielectric equipment design tests, routine tests, and construction specifications.  The solid dielectric equipment is being analyzed by a separate RODE Subcommittee task force.  Other changes to this standard will be solicited.
