Scope

Treatment of all matters relating to indoor and outdoor switches and interrupters rated above 1000 V ac and 3200 V dc except for the following devices:

  1. Distribution cutouts.
  2. Switches used in metal-enclosed and pad-mounted switchgear.
  3. Separable insulated connectors.
  4. Circuit-breakers, circuit-switchers, sectionalizers and reclosers.
  5. Gas-insulated switchgear.
  6. Capacitor switches.
  7. Switches rated 38 kV ac and below used on distribution systems except air insulated overhead applications.
  8. Fuses equipped with integral switches.

What's new in the HVS Subcommittee?


  1. The HVS subcommittee has rotated its leadership roles. It thanks Bill Hurst who did an excellent job as chair through the Covid-19 years.
  2. HVS has started the revision of the following documents:
    1. IEEE C37.30.2 IEEE Guide for Wind-Loading Evaluation of High-Voltage (>1000 V) Air-Break Switches
    2. IEEE C37.30.3 IEEE Standard for Requirements for Interrupter Switches, Interrupters or Interrupting Aids Used on or Attached to Switches Rated for High-Voltage AC Above 1000 Volts
    3. IEEE C37.30.4 IEEE Standard for Test Code for Switching and Fault Making Tests for High-Voltage Interrupter Switches, Interrupters or Interrupting Aids Used on or Attached to Switches Rated for Alternating Currents Above 1000 V
    4. IEEE C37.30.5 IEEE Standard for Definitions for AC High-Voltage Air Switches Rated Above 1000 V
  3. HVS has introduced a new guide IEEE C37.30.6 IEEE Guide for Electric Motor Operators Applied to High-Voltage Air Switches Rated Above 1000 V to the industry.
  4. HVS is introducing a new standard to the industry IEEE C37.30.7 Standard Requirements for High-Voltage Air Switches Rated Above 1000 Vdc
