Two proposals for the 2007 IEEE Workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding (ASRU) were submitted to the SLTC in May. In July, a decision was made by a majority vote by the SLTC to hold the ASRU Workshop in Kyoto, Japan in 2007. The ASRU-2007 Workshop will be organized by Sadaoki Furui of Tokyo Institute of Techology, Satoshi Nakamura of ATR, and Tatsuya Kawahara of Kyoto University. The complete organizing committee is as follows:

General Co-Chairs:
Sadaoki Furui (Tokyo Inst. Tech.)
Tatsuya Kawahara (Kyoto Univ.)
Technical Co-chairs:
Jean-Claude Junqua (Panasonic)
Helen Meng (Chinese Univ. Hong Kong)
Satoshi Nakamura (ATR)
Publicity: Tomoko Matsui (Inst. Stat. Math.)
Demonstrations: Kazuya Takeda (Nagoya Univ.)

It is the first time that the Workshop will be held in Asia. The tentative schedule is from December 9th to 13th, 2007.

Kyoto was the capital of Japan during the 8th to 9th centuries, and many ancient temples and shrines are well preserved, and is now a
UNESCO world heritage site.
