SLTC Looks Forward To ICASSP 2008
BY BRIAN MAK
This year, the speech and
language areas received a record high of 618 submissions! The huge number of
submissions puts a lot of pressure on our review process. Nevertheless, we
managed to make two improvements in the review process:
-
With only a few exceptions,
each paper was reviewed by 4 reviewers, whereas, in the past, a review team
was composed of at most 3 reviewers
-
At least one of the 4
reviewers of a paper was an SLTC member.
It is our hope that with the
addition of one more reviewer and an SLTC member in each paper review, the
review quality can be improved. We would like to thank all SLTC members and
external reviewers who finished the reviews in a timely and professional manner.
At the end, 300 papers are
accepted; that is, the acceptance rate is 48.5%. The accepted papers will be
presented at the ICASSP in April in 34 sessions: 14 lecture sessions and 20
poster sessions.

topic of Voice Search Technology and Applications. The massive growth of
cell-phone and web usage is creating important new opportunities for speech
recognition technology to be used to index, manage and retrieve information.
This special session brings together speakers from SRI, Bogazici University,
Microsoft, Tellme and Google to present cutting-edge research and applications
in the area.
