    Speech Technologies and Modeling
    Speech Component Group
    Microsoft Corporation
    Redmond WA, USA

    Please contact: Yifan.Gong@microsoft.com

Microsoft's Speech Component Group has been working on automatic speech recognition (SR) in real environments. We develop SR products for multiple languages for mobile devices, desktop computers, and communication servers. The group now has an open position for speech scientists with a software development focus to work on our acoustic and language modeling technologies. The position offers great opportunities for innovation and technology and product development.

    Responsibilities:

    * Design and implement speech/language modeling and recognition algorithms to improve recognition accuracy.
    * Create, optimize and deliver quality speech recognition models and other components tailored to our customers'; needs.
    * Identify, investigate and solve challenging problems in the areas of recognition accuracy from speech recognition system deployments.
*Improve speech recognition language expansion engineering process that ensures product quality and scalability.

    Required competencies and skills:

    * Passion about speech technology and quality software, demonstrated ability relative to the design and implementation of speech recognition algorithms.
    * Strong desire for achieving excellent results, strong problem solving skills, ability to multi-task, handle ambiguities, and identify issues in complex SR systems.
    * Good software development skills, including strong aptitude for software design and coding. 3+ years of experience in C/C++ and programming with scripting languages are highly desirable.
    * MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines, with strong background in speech recognition technology, statistical modeling, or signal processing.
    * Track record of developing SR algorithms, or experience in linguistic/phonetics, is a plus.

  • Audio DSP Software Development Engineer, Microsoft Corporation

Unified communication products enable people to communicate effortlessly and conveniently. Audio is the most important
form of communication. Do you want to be part of the group that takes audio communications to the next level?

Our team is essential to the success of the unified communications vision. We are expanding our Audio DSP team to
deliver our audio technologies into new products. The team designs core audio technologies such as acoustic echo
cancellers, noise suppression, audio codecs, voice detection, packet loss concealment, conference mixing, and many
other components. We also take a crucial role in the design of audio hardware to be used in our products. Some of the
products that our team has enabled include Office Communications, Live Communications Server, Live Meeting, Roundtable
device, OC Phone device(VoIP device codenamed Tanjay), Live Messenger, and Exchange Unified Messaging.

Our strongest emphasis is on delivering high quality audio experience to the user. To deliver that, low mouth-to-ear
latency and high fidelity audio are essential in all the scenarios we support. Whether the user dials into a conference
from their mobile device, calling their coworker next door, or calling customers, vendors, or friends across the world,
your work has significant effect on people’s perceptions of Microsoft communication products. You will take part in
improving the quality of our current audio technologies, applying them appropriately to the various products, designing
new features or implementations, designing approaches for real-time health monitoring, to name only a few. An important
part of the job is interaction with other teams such as Windows Mobile, Windows Client, MS Research, Live, and
    third-party hardware and software vendors.

    Qualifications for this position include:

    - Strong audio digital signal processing background
    - 6+ years of C/C++ software development
    - Assembly language and real-time embedded system programming experience is preferred
    - Demonstrated problem solving skills
    - Good communication and team work skills
    - A MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience is preferred
