Guide to European Superconductivity-Related Activities
(Edition 1.4, December 21, 2008)

This Guide is a joint project of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity (CSC) and the European Society for Applied Superconductivity (ESAS). We wish to offer the superconducting community a searchable database presenting the current stand of superconductivity-related activities in Europe. Research, development, design, manufacturing, characterization and applications are included. The database should stimulate interaction and cooperation between active groups and institutions, both in Europe and worldwide. It can also be useful for assessment and funding purposes, for example, by government agencies.

The present search categories and capabilities are sufficient to search by field of endeavor (e.g., “Physics of Superconductivity”, “Conductors and cables”, etc.), type of organization (e.g., “academic”, “industry”, etc), country, name or acronym of the institution (e.g., “Delft University”, “DLR”, “Supracon”, etc. Note: universities are usually listed by location, such as “Delft” above, rather than by their official name) and keyword (keywords of main activity such as “SQUID”, “qubits”, “conductor”, “cables”, and so on). The Guide is updated semi-annually.  This latest edition 1.3 of the Guide is not complete, but we believe it to be highly representative, as it incorporates most of more important European activities (status of early July 2007). It is limited to the European Union (EU), Israel, Norway and Switzerland.  It also contains the first few entries from Russia, Ukraine and Geogia.  Unfortunately, we still could not include most activities in Russia and other European countries of the former Soviet Union, due to lack of submitted information.  We invite colleagues and institutions not jet included from that whole geographic area to join our database.

At present, included are only those groups, institutions, companies or associations, who responded to our invitations and submitted their information material and links to their web pages, if such web pages exist. We are not responsible for the contents of these web pages. The guide itself excludes all publicity material and attempts to present only the technical information (keywords) and contacts in a succinct form. In cases where existing web pages do not reflect the superconductivity-related activity, brief narratives or graphics describing this activity and examples of most representative publications are provided. We include only material which directly involves superconductivity or supporting cryogenics, software, hardware, etc., hence the information provided under “main activity” doesn’t necessarily include what may represent the main activity of the performing organization.

While we actualize the Guide twice a year, that can be only accomplished well if we receive the pertinent input.  We thank all those, who responded to our latest call for updates (approximately 26% of those listed).
