Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy
Technical University of Denmark
- Main activity: Magnetic properties of superconductors; Superconductor structure and defects,; Vortex structure; Development of superconducting wires and tapes (BSCCO, MgB2 and RE123 coated conductors); Development of superconducting Race Track coils holding HTS tapes and generators for direct drive wind turbines.
- Description:
The group has a main competence in neutron and synchrotron x-ray scattering, which is used for basic studies of magnetic and structural properties, including magnetic and structural phases and vortex physics. High energy synchrotron x-ray diffraction is used for in-situ studies of phase formation and texturing of superconducting materials in metal clad. Materials preparation of superconductors include powders, single crystals and tapes/wires. A 16 Tesla cryogen free measuring system is used to characterize materials especially coated conductors for the frabrication of race track coils.
