IEEE
Sensors Journal
Biosensors, studied since the 1960’s, will have
an increasingly important role in the 21st century biotechnology and
medical revolution. Modern biosensors developed with advanced microfabrication
and signal processing techniques are becoming inexpensive, accurate, and
reliable. Increasing miniaturization of
biosensors has led to the realization of complex analytical systems such as DNA
micro-arrays and chemical/biological laboratories-on-a-chip. This rapid progress in miniature devices and instrumentation
development will significantly impact the practice of medical care as well as
future advances in national defense and the chemical, environmental and
pharmaceutical industries, particularly in genomics and proteomics. The purpose
of this special issue is to bring together
original research papers representing the best in the general area of
biosensors, showing the state of the art as
well as the breadth and depth of current research, and thus providing active
researchers with a Journal issue of archival value.
