About IEEE & Societies as Technical Sponsor of the Conference

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and its predecessors, the AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) and the IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers), date to 1884. In 1961, the leadership of both the IRE and the AIEE resolved to seek an end to these difficulties through consolidation. The next year a merger plan was formulated and approved and became effective on 1 January 1963.

As per January 2005 figures IEEE has

bullet

more than 365,000 members in over 150 countries, almost 40 percent of whom are from outside the United States.

bullet

over 68,000 student members.

bullet

more than 27,000 society affiliates.

bullet

307 sections.

bullet

1,446 chapters.

bullet

more than 1,300 student branches in 80 countries.

bullet

over 300 student branch chapters.

bullet

more than 147 affinity groups.

bullet

39 societies and 3 technical councils.

As of Jan., there were more than 1.1 million documents in the IEEE/IEE Electronic Library. Visit IEEE Xplore(R) for daily totals.

bullet

The IEEE publishes a total of 128 transactions, journals and magazines.

bullet

The IEEE sponsors more than 300 conferences each year.

bullet

The IEEE Standards Association has more than 8,350 individual and almost 60 corporate members.

IEEE VISION

To advance global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, enabling members' careers and promoting community world-wide.

IEEE MISSION

The IEEE promotes the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge about electro and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession.

The IEEE Power Engineering Society (PES) is a worldwide, non-profit association of more than 20,000 individuals engaged in electric power engineering. PES members are involved in the planning, research, development, construction, installation, and operation of equipment and systems for the safe, reliable, and economic generation, transmission, distribution, measurement, and control of electric energy. The Power Engineering Society provides the world's largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and for educating members of the industry and the general public. Members of the Power Engineering Society are leaders in this field, and they — and their employers — derive substantial benefits from involvement with this unique and outstanding association.

IEEE Power Engineering Society Mission Statement

To be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for our members.

The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society through its members encompasses a diverse range of technical activities devoted to the application of electronics and electrical sciences for the enhancement of industrial and manufacturing processes. These technical activities address the latest developments in intelligent and computer control systems, robotics, factory communications and automation, flexible manufacturing, data acquisition and signal processing, vision systems, and power electronics. The Society continually updates its program of technical activities to meet the needs of modern industry.

The Power Electronics Society is one of the technical societies of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) helps in the development and effective application of power electronics technology. PELS chapters throughout the world help members stay with the latest developments. We are a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to scientific and educational aspects of this important engineering discipline. Activities within PELS include conferences and workshops to provide a forum for the latest advances in power electronics research. PELS also publishes the Transactions on Power Electronics and the PELS Newsletter for its members.
