STATE SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR (SSEF) 2009

SSEF 2009 will be held at the downtown Lakeland Center on Thursday, April 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Address is 701 W. Lime St., Lakeland, FL, 33815

RFID Conference Needs Student Volunteers
The Orlando Section has agreed to be a technical co-sponsor for the IEEE RFID 2009 conference being held at the Disney Swan and Dolphin hotels Monday/Tuesday April 27-28.  https://www.ieee-rfid.org/2009/index.html  This is the third annual RFID conference.  RFID technology is growing rapidly in new applications, including U.S. passports, access control, animal tagging, inventory control, and even baggage handling at airports for faster retrieval and delivery (fewer lost bags).

As Publicity Chair, I have also agreed to coordinate volunteer support for the conference. We are targeting student members for this support.  Volunteers should arrive by 7:30 a.m. each day for orientation, then expect to work a minimum of 4 hours or more to qualify for exhibits access, a CD of the papers, free visitor parking (usually $10), and lunch.  The normal student registration costs $250 to $300, so volunteering is a good return on your time.

The exhibits will open for the reception after the technical papers on the first day, then be available the second day.

There will be three parallel technical sessions after the opening plenary session and each will need volunteer support.  We will need about 10 volunteers per day to do the following:

  • Load speaker presentations on laptops
  • Hand out session survey forms
  • Serve as session monitor (count heads in the room, etc.)
  • Serve as runner for the registration desk
  • Staff the IEEE membership table
  • Keep the IEEE-USA display loaded with literature
We need to hear from interested students and getting commitments from them so we can build a schedule

Members from nearby sections interested in volunteering should contact George McClure to be placed on the list.  Note date preferences as well.  Email      , with RFID in the subject line, or call 407-647-5092 for further information.
