Star Search 2011 and Scholarship Awards
Application Deadline is Extended to Sep. 16th, 2011
The IEEE Orlando Section announces the request for nominations for the 2011 Orlando Section Awards, which will be presented this fall. The Orlando Section presents six awards annually:
  • Outstanding Engineering Educator
  • Outstanding Engineer
  • Outstanding Service
  • Outstanding Entrepreneur
  • Outstanding Undergraduate Student
  • Outstanding Graduate Student
Nominees must be IEEE members in good standing and have been a resident of the Orlando Section for the past three years.
 
Any Orlando Section member in good standing may make a nomination for the Orlando Section Awards
 
Also, the Orlando Section presents Undergraduate / Graduate Scholarship Awards each calendar year. Nominees must be IEEE student / graduate student members in good standing, currently enrolled as undergraduate / graduate student in an engineering program located in Orlando Section's 5 county (central Florida) area as well as at time of the award. The Awards Committee essay topic for the 2011 scholarship award is: "Engineering and Healthcare. "

Write an essay no less than 800 words. It's can be how engineering have helped to better today's or future's healthcare. It can be your thoughts or point of views how engineering should better the healthcare. Healthcare is broadly defined here can be any parts of the process of healthcare, e.g. delivering, managing, etc. It can be about healthcare in a particular area of the world, or in general.

Call for Nominations for 2012 Section Officers
The Orlando Section elects officers for a term of one year beginning January 1st. This year's Nomination Committee will be accepting nominations for Section Officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer). Nominations must be submitted in writing to the Nominations Committee at  on or before October 10th, 2011.
 
The Section membership may make a nomination for new Section Officers by submitting qualify petitions. A qualify petition shall meet the following criteria:
  • Specify the office.
  • Bear the signature of at least 1% of the voting Section members.
  • Contain statement of the nominee's consent to serve.
  • State nominee's qualification and biography.
  • Be delivered to the Section Nominations Committee at on or before October 10th, 2011 by 5:00 PM

The last A&A Review Panel meeting was held on 6 August, 2011 in Calgary, Canada. The next IEEE Senior Member Review Panel Meeting will be held on 17 September 2011, in Detroit, MI, USA.

NEWLY ELEVATED SENIOR MEMBERS - RECEIVE US$25 VOUCHER TOWARDS A NEW IEEE SOCIETY: IEEE provides all newly elevated Senior Members with a voucher worth up to US$25. It can be used to join one new IEEE Society. The voucher expires on 31 December of the year in which it is received.

Volunteers Needed - SoutheastCon 2012 Conference in Orlando
The Region 3 annual conference, SoutheastCon, will be held in Orlando in the spring of 2012.  This is a good opportunity for section members to get experience in helping to manage a significant technical conference.  Currently there are opportunities in committees for local arrangements, technical program, registration, sponsorship solicitation, papers reviewers, exhibits, publicity, contest competitions, and hospitality (among others).  For further information, send email to , with "2012" in the subject line.
